A modern apothecary for a modern free spirit
I love finding ways to blend functional ceramic art with everyday products. In an effort to embrace a more minimalist lifestyle, I have combined my passion for handmade ceramics and essential oil candles. I thrive on the “reuse” aspect of “reduce, reuse and recycle,” as all of my ceramic products are designed with multiple functionalities in mind.
Through Apothecary Pottery, I offer soy wax and essential oil candles, which are hand poured into handmade ceramic votives. I also make goat’s milk and essential soaps, and offer bottles of my essential oil scents.
Apothecary Pottery was established in Lethbridge, AB in 2017 as a way to combine both beauty and functionality.
With love and good vibes,
-Kassy

MY STORY AND PHILOSOPHY:
HAND MADE

Handmade on the wheel and by hand in Lethbridge, Alberta, by Kassy Pointer.
WOODEN WICKS

Cotton wicks, which are commonly and historically used in candles are typically bleached and produce a lot of soot when burned.
Wooden wicks tend to burn for a longer period of time than cotton wicks, produce a wonderful "crackling" sound and produce much less soot than cotton wicks.
My wooden wicks are from The Wooden Wick Co. These wicks are sustainable and ethically sourced from US-based Forest Stewardship Council Certified Mills, and are eco-friendly and phthalate free. This company is also partnered with Trees for the Future, an organization that is working to end hunger and poverty for small farmers through revitalizing degraded lands. The Trees for the Future program offers educational opportunities, empowers women, and builds communities.
ESSENTIAL OILS

All of my candles are scented only with essential oils, and, wherever possible, organic essential oils. This means that your candles are free of any synthetic compounds.
I do not use any fragrances or artificial scents.
RECYCLE & REUSE

Every ceramic piece that I create is made with intention and multiple functionalities in mind; this means that once you have burned your candle through, you can clean out the vessel and repurpose it again as a trinket holder, succulent planter, candy dish, pencil holder or dish-ware, to name a few.
To reduce as much waste as possible, all shipping and packaging materials are previously used and generously donated by local businesses who would otherwise recycle or throw them out.
BEESWAX LIDS

In order to protect the soy wax, wooden wick and to help preserve the candle scent, cotton beeswax lids are used on each candle.
These lids are biodegradable, if you choose not to reuse them after receiving your candle.
If you do want to reuse these lids, simply give them a quick hand wash with mild soap and cool water (hot water will melt the beeswax!), and use as a temporary lid for maintaining freshness on a small bowl or a a small glass.
SHIPPING & LOCAL DELIVERY

For shipping, I utilize re-used packing material donated from local business in order to keep shipping/packaging costs as low as possible for you, and, at this time, I do not offer gift wrapping.
Shipping costs are estimated for you at checkout. Costs are dependent upon the specific weight and size of your item, as well as the distance the package has to travel to arrive at its destination. As ceramic items are very fragile, and heavy, they require a lot of packaging, this can result in shipping costs that may be higher than your average postage. If there are any shipping cost overages, you will be refunded the difference.
To reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, please select "Local Delivery/Pick-up" if you live in the Lethbridge, AB region.
